Land Acknowledgement
We would like to acknowledge that Minnesota is located within the traditional territories of the Anishinaabe and Dakota peoples with camp specifically within Anishinaabe lands.
Camp Warren is set between 4 tribal nations: Bois Forte Band of Chippewa, Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe and Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa.
We acknowledge the members of these nations — some of whom may be here at camp today — and the histories that have taken place that separated the Indigenous peoples from their lands. It is our privilege to be here; to connect with these lands, waters, and other living beings while others who hold relations with these lands cannot.
We love this place and want to care for it the best we can. Part of doing that is opening it up to and learning from the original peoples of these lands, because it was their prayers and practices that protected this place long before we got here. We know we have a lot to learn as a community and that this acknowledgement is only the beginning of a long process consisting of both reflection and action.
